Peter Bodenheimer, Program Director
Peter Bodenheimer started his career in the food business before moving to technology and early stage ventures. Since joining his first startup in Boston in the mid 1990’s he has focused on building products that drive businesses forward. Prior to joining SOSV, Peter served as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the Idea Village in New Orleans and as the COO of Plantbid, an early stage technology company in the Agtech space. Before that, Peter was a partner in and helped grow software development firm Flatstack and co-founded and ran Launch Pad Ignition, an accelerator based in New Orleans, LA where he worked with dozens of companies to help refine and grow their business.
In addition to his work at Food-X, Peter is fascinated by the potential of Blockchain as a technology, loves the challenge of a good poker game, and occasionally can be found behind a bar mixing up something interesting.
Terry Romero, Program Manager
Terry Hope Romero has worn many hats in the food industry: chef, award-winning vegan cookbook author, product development, and food startup team member. She brings to Food-X her passion for supporting the growth and development of food businesses and curiosity of the bustling food scene of NYC.
Prior to Food-X Terry served as Food Outreach Lead for the Food vertical at Kickstarter, and since has mentored Food-X companies and consulted food tech startups to help them reach their crowdfunding and business development goals. Terry enjoys developing vegan recipes and hiking in the Hudson Valley.
Paul Monaghan, Analyst
Paul joined SOSV as an Analyst for Food-X & dLab, reporting to General Partner Shawn Broderick. His responsibilities include monitoring and communicating with the existing Food-X portfolio, assisting in the launch of the dLab program and performing general data analysis.
Prior to SOSV, Paul was an Analyst at Bourne Park Capital, a London-based alternative investment manager. His role involved performing due diligence on potential investments and managing portfolio risk. Prior to that he was a Summer Analyst for Tigerlabs, a venture capital accelerator based in Princeton, focusing on the outbound sourcing of startups.
Paul graduated from Fordham University with a BA in Economics. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, photography and playing court tennis.
Isabella Fantini, Office Administrator
Isabella Fantini brings her passion for food and background in finance to the team at Food-X. She has been a vegetarian for over 10 years and is dedicated to fostering a collaborative community for innovative food startups at Food-X.
Prior to Food-X, Isabella worked at Berenberg Capital Markets on the equity sales team, where she was responsible for providing equity research to institutional clients. She gained hands-on startup experience working at a grocery e-commerce startup and is involved with the St Andrews Angels, an angel network of St Andrews alumni and mentors dedicated to fostering the entrepreneurial environment within the St Andrews community.
She graduated from the University of St Andrews with a BSc in Financial Economics. Outside of the office, Isabella enjoys discovering new healthy restaurants, exploring local farmer’s markets, and reading a good book on the beach.
Shawn Broderick, General Partner
Shawn is a General Partner at SOSV and is responsible for Food-X. Previously with TechStars Boston, Shawn brings extensive expertise and benchmarking knowledge around other global accelerator models; he has refined the SOSV accelerator model in alignment with best practice and has pioneered a number of emerging trends in the accelerator space. Adept at sourcing talent and managing business teams, technical teams, and creative teams, it is no surprise that Shawn has broad experience raising institutional and angel funds for businesses and in sourcing LPs for investment vehicles.
Shawn Broderick has more than twenty years of experience creating value in software companies as individual contributor, entrepreneur, intrapraneur, manager, investor, and leader. Shawn has extensive experience in business development, sales, and partnering, with repeated success in developing products from concept to customer.
A successful entrepreneur, Shawn has over twenty years of success designing, building, funding, growing, and selling technology companies. He has founded and grown numerous firms, including play140, creator of social games with words; TrustPlus, created in 2005 to build the reputation layer of the Internet; Genetic Anomalies, the first company to commercialize virtual property on the Internet; DigitalShares, a platform for electronic, virtual financial instruments; and Voxx Inc, a next-generation VoIP services firm.
Shawn has also served as an advisor and/or investor to over 50+ startups, many through his role as Managing Director of TechStars Boston 2009 and 2010 funds. In addition to numerous TechStars alums, he has served as an investor, advisor, and/or director to Aylien, CoreStreet, iFactory, Kefta, Red 5 Studios, Speranza Systems, and more.
Ray Yeung, Founder, Relev8
Whether it’s launching a new company or product, raising the profiles of founders or coming up with a culturally relevant campaign, Ray brings strategic thinking, strong influencer relationships and creativity to ensure his clients are successful in achieving their business goals.
Before founding Relev8, Ray served as the head of communications at eBay and led the communications strategy and execution for the spin-off of eBay Enterprise. Prior to eBay, Ray spent more than 12 years at New York-based agency, Brainerd Communicators as Managing Director and managed high profile engagements for the agency’s tech, media, consumer and startup brands, among them PwC, Playboy, Pixar, iHeartMedia, Live Nation, Ticketmaster, Siemens and Ancestry.com. Previously, Ray worked at Hill and Knowlton’s corporate & technology practice. Ray began his career at Oracle in Australia & New Zealand in various marketing communications roles.
Nancy Zakhary, Principal, Relev8
Nancy serves as a trusted advisor on brand strategy and positioning for leading global brands and scrappy startups, drawing on her deep expertise in the media, entertainment, telecom, technology, retail, automotive, marketing, food, consumer lifestyle and professional services industries. Her mission is to help her clients tell their stories creatively and succinctly, engage with their audiences, and achieve their communications goals/bottom-line results.
Prior to joining Relev8, Nancy worked at Brainerd Communicators – a boutique PR shop, where she was responsible for running and supporting dynamic B2B and BtoC engagements for PwC (Auto; Deals; Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications; and Technology practices), Playboy, Live Nation, TicketMaster, Pixar, Deckers Brands (UGG, Teva, HOKA), iHeartMedia, ION Media, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s Outdoor Sportsman Group, Grindr and Happn, among others.
Before entering the PR industry, Nancy was a fashion columnist for Slant Magazine and supported assistants to the Editor-in-Chief at Harper’s Bazaar.
Irene Papajohn, EQing Consulting
Irene’s passion and expertise lies in understanding people- their motivations and their unspoken hopes and fears, in order to help her clients develop compassion and empathy necessary to create products and experiences that connect with their audiences and improve their lives.
Irene has worn many hats throughout her career including creative researcher, brand manager, social media marketer and leadership coach spanning a range of industries including tech, media, beauty, wealth, wellness, and food. She feels lucky to have learned from some of the best while working at world class companies including P&G, Unilever, and Facebook, as well as trailblazing agencies including Vayner Media and Sterling Brands.
Her desire to work closer with founders led her to create EQing Consulting, where she partners with emotionally intelligent leaders and brands to tune into their vision and to connect with their audience.
She has her MBA from NYU Stern and her BA in psychology and communications from University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, you can find her at Barnes and Noble, hanging with family, or you can’t find her because she’s away on retreat.
Jeff Silva, Creative Director
Jeff Silva was one of the founding designers at J&J Design based in NYC where he managed iconic global brands such as Tylenol, LISTERINE, and Band-Aid.
After 10 years in the Consumer world, he brought his expertise in managing brand equity, developing product innovation, positioning, design strategy, and design thinking to a Blockchain startup called ConsenSys where he served as the Brand Design Circle Captain. He built the Brand Design team into the best brand design group in the Blockchain tech industry. He is also the co-founder of Filfil Foods, a small batch Brooklyn based garlic condiments company where he leads business development, sales, marketing, and design for the company.
Jeff has a passion for design, architecture, and humanitarian design and is always thinking about creating the next big opportunity to bring healthy, positive, and differentiated value to the world.
